SWEETWATER GOSPEL SINGERS IN OUTDOOR CONCERTS
The Sweetwater Gospel Singers from the Montague area will be in an outdoor concert at the Hart Commons in downtown Hart on Saturday, August 9, at 6:30 p.m. They will also be in concert at Jellystone Park Campground in Silver Lake the next morning, Sunday, August 10, at 10:00 a.m. for the outdoor worship service held in the pavilion behind the office at 8239 W. Hazel Rd., Mears. The public is invited to come as you are and walk in for that service. The group sings Southern Gospel music and has performed in the West Michigan area for more than seven years. They have recorded their own music and CDs will be available for sale. There is no charge for either concert but donations will be received to benefit the Oceana County Jail Ministry of Hart. For more information, contact Jerry Thorne at (231)425-3693.
The third annual “Oceana’s Got Talent” Competition will kick-off the 2014 Oceana County Fair on Tuesday night, August 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Grandstand. The “I Am Free” Praise Team Band will open while performers are signing in as of 6:30 p.m. Competition will start promptly at 7:00 p.m. This event provides opportunity for local musicians to showcase their talents and possibly win a cash prize through independent judging. Categories for the completion are female vocalist, male vocalist, and vocal group (2 or more musicians). Also, a “Showstopper” award will also be given for the best overall performance that “wows” the crowd. Performers must live or have lived in Oceana County and must register by August 17, 2014, to determine placement in the program. A sound system will be provided but any special equipment will be the responsibility of the participants.
This evening of public entertainment is a joint effort of the Oceana County Fair Association and Oceana County Jail Ministry. There will be free admission, free parking and free grandstand, but a freewill offering will be taken to benefit the Oceana County Jail Ministry. There will also be a Silent Auction of items and services from Oceana and Mason County businesses. The proceeds from the Auction will benefit both the Oceana County Jail Ministry in Hart and Westshore Youth for Christ in Ludington. For more information or to register as a performer, call or email Jerry Thorne at (231)425-3693 or email@example.com.
